AM I TOO YOUNG TO ATTEND GLA?
GLA is an all ages conference. In order to get the most out of GLA programming, we’d guess that 10 is a good age to start. That said, everyone is different - if you feel like you/your child is ready, go for it!
AM I TOO OLD TO ATTEND GLA?
We we say it’s all ages, that goes both ways. GLA believes in cross-generational mentorship, the idea that a 50 year old can learn from a 10 year old just as much as a 10 year old can learn from a 50 year old (though perhaps in different ways). You should be aware that you will be placed on a team with folks of all ages and asked to complete the same activities as everyone else, but as long as you come with an open mind and you leave your too-old-for-this mindset at the door, we promise you’ll have a blast.
IS PROGRAMMING APPROPRIATE FOR YOUNGER ATTENDEES?
The short answer: yes. We work hard to ensure that GLA is a safe space for everyone. Some of the subjects discussed at GLA may be more complex or difficult, i.e. discussing issues like racism and sexism, but we believe these issues are appropriate and relevant for all ages. The schedule, social activities, and language is designed to be friendly for trainees of any age, and our staff is ready and willing to help guide trainees who may need extra support.
IS THIS JUST FOR GIRLS?
Definitely not, but expect a lot of girl power.
CAN I ARRIVE LATE/LEAVE EARLY?
GLA is not a normal conference, and you will get the best experience if you plan to attend the entire program. Trainees are strongly encouraged to plan travel accordingly. That said, if circumstances do not allow for this you will be allowed to check in late - just be aware that you may have to wait until the next morning for a check in window. Check in windows will be posted several months in advance.
CAN I ATTEND GLA WITH MY CHILD?
Yes, but you’ll need to purchase a registration for yourself as well as your child.
CAN MY CHILD ATTEND GLA ALONE?
Yes! They’ll need to bring a Legal Guardian Permission Form with them in order to be checked in, or bring their legal guardian with them, and we’ll have that person sign the form on arrival. In addition, minors must check out at the end of the conference, and minors who are not staying on site will need to check in and out each time they are dropped off/picked up.
WHAT IF I USE A DIFFERENT NAME THAN MY LEGAL ONE?
No problem! When you register you’ll be able to enter your preferred name so that your badge is printed correctly. Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any concerns or further questions.
WILL THERE BE GENDER NEUTRAL BATHROOMS?
I HAVE A PARTICULAR ACCESSIBILITY NEED, WHO DO I TALK TO?
There is a space on the registration form to indicate both dietary and accessibility needs. If we need to clarify anything from your registration in order to best serve you, we’ll follow up! If you have further questions or concerns, you can email us at email@example.com.
