IS THIS REALLY ALL AGES?
Yes. Our age range is usually 10 to 60! While our average age is around 25, you won't be alone no matter where you fall. For our youngest heroes we recommend 10 as a good starting age to get the most out of the experience, but you know yourself best and are welcome to attend earlier.
We believe strongly in the power of inter-generational communities, and believe that folks of all ages have much to learn from one another.
IS THIS JUST FOR HARRY POTTER FANS?
No! We include all kinds of fandoms, and while there may be some references throughout, the majority of programs are not fandom-centric. You'll be fine even if you're a muggle.
IS THIS JUST FOR GIRLS?
While you can expect a lot of girl power, this is an all gender inclusive event.
I’VE NEVER GONE TO A LEADERSHIP AND/OR ACTIVISM TRAINING BEFORE - IS THIS FOR ME?
This is perfect for you! GLA is designed to be a space where those of all experience levels can learn and ask questions without fear of shaming.
I’M AN EXPERIENCED ORGANIZER, IS THIS EVENT FOR ME?
Yes! Beyond our advanced program offerings, we think the opportunity to see the fan activism methodology in action is a great opportunity for even the most experienced organizers.
KIDS AND TICKETS
DO INFANTS NEED A TICKET?
Kids 1 and under can attend with their parent without their own ticket. Everyone else needs a ticket!
CAN I ATTEND WITH MY CHILD AS A CHAPERONE WITHOUT A TICKET?
No. In order to attend the conference with your child you will need to purchase your own ticket - but hey, we think you'll enjoy it too!
IS THIS PROGRAM POLITICAL?
Granger Leadership Academy is a program of the Harry Potter Alliance, a 501c3 nonprofit organization that uses pop culture to make activism accessible. GLA is a nonpartisan event, but it is not apolitical. That means that while we won't advocate for a particular political party or candidate, we will talk about how to advocate for social issues in politics. You can read more about our platform here.
I’M WORRIED ABOUT HAVING THESE KINDS OF DISCUSSIONS WITH YOUNGER KIDS. WHAT’S THAT LIKE?
Our experience has taught us that our youngest heroes are frequently underestimated. We believe these topics are important to discuss early. You shouldn't feel the need to censor yourself!
I HAVE A DISABILITY AND/OR NEURODIVERGENCY, CAN YOU MAKE SURE THINGS ARE ACCESSIBLE FOR ME?
Absolutely. Our Trainee Services Coordinator will be in touch with you after you register to talk about your specific needs, but please feel free to reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org in advance if you have concerns or questions.
WILL THERE BE GENDER NEUTRAL RESTROOMS?
Yes. We do not operate GLA in any space that does not have a designated, multi-stall gender neutral restroom.
CAN I CANCEL MY TICKET?
Yes. Please note that tickets cancelled after November 20th, 2018 will not be refunded. All cancellation requests must be received by 5 PM Pacific on November 20th in order to be eligible for a refund.
CAN I TRANSFER MY TICKET?
No, we do not allow ticket transfers.
DO YOU HAVE SCHOLARSHIPS?
Our Snitchwich Scholars program partners with local organizations in the host city to provide scholarships to local, low-income students or community organizers of color. We work directly with these organizations to identify recipients. If you know of an organization in the Philadelphia area that would be a good fit, please have them email email@example.com!
I’D LIKE TO BE A VENDOR AT THE CONFERENCE, HOW DO I DO THAT?
Unfortunately we do not have a vendor hall at GLA.
I’D LIKE TO DONATE TO A SCHOLARSHIP, HOW DO I DO THAT?
Thank you so much for your support! You can make a donation to thehpalliance.org/donate and indicate in the notes that you would like it to be used for a Snitchwich Scholar. A $50 donation covers 1 scholar.
